Membership Terms and Conditions

Effective from July 2024

1. INTRODUCTION

​

  • Neurodiversity in Law (‘we’, ‘our’, ‘us’, ‘the Charity’) is a registered Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) in England and Wales. Its association model constitution gives our members voting rights.

​

  • Therefore, this Membership Policy is designed in line with the Charity’s aims and objects.​

​

2. POLICY STATEMENT

​

  • This policy is designed to help prospective and existing members understand how we promote and monitor memberships. It defines eligibility and the operation of rules concerning application for and termination of membership.

​

3. MEMBERSHIP

​

  • Individual membership shall be open to individuals who:

​

  • Student membership shall be open to individuals who:

    • Meet the criteria of the above, and

    • Are studying in Higher Education and currently enrolled on an undergraduate or postgraduate course, including legal professional or vocational courses, such as LPC, SQE, and BPC.

​

  • Membership is non-transferable and non-refundable.

​

  • Your membership will be cancelled without refund if you breach any of these terms or any other policies relevant to you as a member.

​

  • We have the right to terminate your membership if you violate any of the terms and conditions of this Agreement.

​

  • The Trustees of the Charity retain absolute discretion in deciding if applications for membership are to be accepted, taking full account of its membership policy and the constitution of the Charity.

​

  • We may periodically review and increase our membership fee at our discretion. We will always give members notice of any increase.

​

4. APPLICATION PROCESS

​

​

  • Membership is on an annual basis with an annual fee of £10.

​

  • Student membership is discounted to the annual fee of £5.

    • A current valid .ac.uk email address is required to qualify for student membership.

    • Any members registering for Student membership without this will have their membership revoked.

​

  • Those facing financial hardships can apply for our ‘Pay-it-forward’ membership, which provides them with an annual membership free of charge. Applications for this type of membership must be made via email to memberships@neurodiversityinlaw.co.uk.

​

5. BENEFITS

​

  • Members are entitled to a range of benefits including:

    • Attendance at the AGM and voting rights.

    • Access to The Community.

    • Exclusive access to our Blog.

    • Exclusive event recordings and resources.

    • Exclusive events/projects OR early access to events/projects.

​

  • Once membership has been approved, members can access these benefits through the website by logging in and accessing the Members Dashboard.

​

  • The trustees maintain the discretion to revoke or change any of these benefits at any point. Members will be notified of any changes to benefits.

​

6. CANCELLATION OF MEMBERSHIP AND REFUNDS

​

  • Members may cancel their membership at any point for any reason and will not be charged for their next billing cycle. 

​

​

  • Membership is non-refundable under any circumstances.

​

7. DATA PROTECTION AND USE OF PERSONAL DATA

​

  • Neurodiversity in Law is a data controller as defined by the Data Protection Act 2018 in relation to any personal data you provide to us for the purposes of your membership of the Charity.

​

  • By applying for membership, you agree that we may process the personal data that we collect from you for the purposes of your membership in accordance with the use and collection of data provisions in our Privacy Policy: http://www.neurodiversityinlaw.co.uk/privacy-policy/. In particular, we may use personal data we hold about you for marketing, statistical and analytical purposes, and administrative purposes concerning your membership.

8.  FURTHER CONDITIONS

​

  • We reserve the right to:

    • Revoke your membership if you breach any of these terms.

    • Revoke your membership if you act in a manner which, in our sole opinion, brings the Charity, its members or affiliated organisations into disrepute.

    • Change these terms at any time.

​

  • In the event of a breach of any of the rules within this document being disputed, an appeal can be launched, and such appeal will be handled by a member/trustee who is/was unconnected with the initial decision.

​

  • You are not permitted to use our logo at any time unless consent is given in writing.

​

  • All members must agree to these terms, The Community User Rules, and the Website Terms of Use.

​

  • The validity, interpretation and performance of these Terms will be governed by English law and the parties submit to the jurisdiction of the English courts.

​

9. POLICY ENFORCEMENT

​

  •  The Trustees will administer this Membership Policy.

​

  •  This Policy will be reviewed annually or more frequently should circumstances dictate or when relevant legislation changes.

​
